Google Street View records tour of Regina's Government House
Google will be in Regina over the next few days because they’ve included Government House as part of their Street View Project.
When they are done, anyone with internet access will be able to take a 360 degree virtual tour of the historic building.
Chad Debert is with Government House. He admits that when the email from Google arrived, there was some skepticism.
“After a little digging, we realized it was the real deal and we were thrilled to have them come out here,” said Debert.
Debert says that at first Google was only going to film the inside of the house. He made sure they included the rehabilitated Edwardian gardens.
“They’re a big part of our history, so it was nice to have them included,” said Debert.
Google is working on this project in North American and European cities. A team is going across Canada.
“It’s more information for people in the area or for tourists or for people just outside to learn about Canada and how we set things up,” said Wendy Bairos, who works for Google.
She says the project makes the maps created by Google “richer” by providing additional information.
