SGI looks for builders for new Regina office tower
Saskatchewan Government Insurance is pushing ahead with its plan for a new head office tower in Regina.
A formal Request For Proposals has now been issued by the Crown-owned insurer. It follows the revelation in December that the company feels that the building has exceeded its useful life and is badly in need of a complete renovation.
Those bidding to build a new building would also agree to buy the existing black and gold head office at 11th Avenue and Lorne in downtown Regina.
A new building would have a larger "footprint" with more space per floor but with fewer floors than the current building. Proposals are supposed to be in by Dec. 17 with a winning bid picked by mid-2014.
The plan is to build the new headquarters and then vacate the old building. SGI considers that a better option than an expensive full renovation to the old office tower.
Four companies are short-listed for the work after a preliminary evaluation of submissions after a Request for Expressions of Interest was sent out last year.
