Three injured in crash that closed Highway 13 near Pontiex
Multiple people were sent to hospital and a highway was shut down after a two-vehicle crash near Pontiex.
Around 3 o'clock Friday afternoon a light duty truck collided with a semi on Highway 13.
Three people were injured in the crash. They were transported to hospital, but the extent of their injuries in not known.
The semi began leaking what the RCMP thought was liquid fertilizer shortly after the crash, so RCMP closed down the highway in that area.
Corporal Jason Teniuk said they didn't know for sure if the liquid fertilizer was dangerous.
"So just to exercise on the side of caution they blocked a large area around this unit and to make sure the public's not at risk.
RCMP were re-routing traffic.
"Pontiex RCMP are, in effect, routing traffic off Highway 13 into Pontiex, one mile East of Pontiex, before the paved turnoff at Highway 628," said Teniuk.
That portion of Highway 13 was closed into Friday night as accident reconstructionists investigated and the liquid fertilizer was cleaned up.
