Windy highways leave semitrailer on its side
Strong winds on Highway 1 have left a semitrailer flipped over on its side.
RCMP were on scene at the Belle Plaine overpass where a westbound semitrailer went off the road.
“I was going just over the Belle Plaine Bridge and a guy about a kilometre in front of me, the wind grabbed him and flipped him over the bridge,” described Mark Cyrenne.
He was a short distance back when it happened.
“That Belle Plaine Bridge is scary bad,” said Cyrenne.
RCMP believe that high winds caused the vehicle to tip over while crossing the overpass.
The driver was not hurt and there is no hazarous material leaking from the semitrailer.
RCMP said there was a diesel fuel leak but the Moose Jaw Fire Department have it contained.
RCMP said that the highway is open and the semi has been dragged into the ditch to be removed at a later time. They warn the highway is a bit slippery but is safe for travel.
